Mrs. Josephine P. Colvin, “Josie”, 92, resident of Shaftsbury, Vermont, passed away at her home on August 28, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in North Bennington, VT on March 13, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Ida (Hurley) Sweet. She received her education in North Bennington and Bennington.
Gerald Colvin and Josie were married on July 10, 1948 in North Bennington, Vermont. Gerald Colvin passed on July 26, 2000.
In her earlier years, Josie was employed at Union Carbide Corporation and Transistor Electronics. Later she was employed at Creative Tools and Schmelzer Corporation. She was also employed on a part-time basis at the Bennington County Meal Program.
Josie was a member of the of the Gold Star Parents of the Veterans of Foreign Wars #1332, the VFW Auxiliary, and the American Legion Post 13 Auxiliary.
Her hobbies and interests included playing bingo, traveling, and visiting with family and friends. Her home and family were her main interests.
Survivors of Josie include a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Christopher Cornell; a daughter Cynthia Dunlop; four grandchildren, Tyler and Taryn Dunlop, and Brianna and Christian Colvin; five great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Danielle Colvin; a sister, Sadie Rice; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Josie is predeceased by two sons, Gerald S. Colvin who was killed in action in the Vietnam War, and Gary L. Colvin; seven brothers, Jack Sweet, Joseph Sweet, Steven Jacobs, Harold Sweet, Richard Sweet, Robert Sweet, and Francis Sweet; and four sisters, Anna Mears, Irene Mears, Lillian Muckle, and Betty Mayer.
A funeral service for Josie will be held on September 3, 2024 at 12:00 pm at the Mahar Funeral Home in Bennington, VT. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours prior to the service from 10:00-12:00pm. Following the funeral service, the committal service and burial for Josie will be held at Park Lawn Cemetery located in Bennington.
