Joseph P. Restino

May 31, 1927 — July 24, 2017

Joseph P. Restino, age 90, a resident of the Vermont Veterans Home and former longtime resident of Harbour Road in Bennington, died on Monday, July 24, following a brief illness.

He was born in Hoosick Falls, NY and was the son of the late Samuel and Albina (Luzzi) Restino. He received his education at St. Mary's Academy in Hoosick Falls,

Joe proudly served in the Army and Navy during World War II.

On July 8, 1961, he married the former Pauline Cefalo in Bennington, Mrs. Restino survives.

Joe had been employed for many years as a Propane Technician, working between Blue Flame Gas in Hoosick Falls, and Synergy Propane in Bennington. Although he never really retired he put up his tools around 2000, but he continued to work privately for several years.

He is a former member of the Bennington Lions Club, Bennington Elks Club, American Legion, Post #13 of Bennington, and the Knights of Columbus. He loved gardening, his dogs, and listening to music, especially Polka music. But his all time favorite song was "I Never Promised You A Rose Garden" by Lynn Anderson.

Survivors besides his wife, include three sons: Paul J. Restino of Bennington, VT, Samuel C. Restino of Bennington, VT and Joseph A. Restino of Waltham, MA. He leaves four grandsons, two granddaughters, and six great grandchildren. He has one sister who survives, Lucy Allen of Hoosick Falls, NY and nieces and nephews. Joe is predeceased by four sisters and four brothers.

A Prayer service will be held on Monday morning, July 31, at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home at 9:30 AM followed by a mass of Christian Death and Burial at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington at 10:00AM. Interment will follow the mass at Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 4-7PM.

Members of the Elks Club are asked to gather at the funeral home on Sunday at 6:00 PM to offer services. Members of the Knights of Columbus are asked to meet at the funeral home on Sunday at 6:30 PM to offer services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA and Hospice in Bennington or to the Vermont Veterans Home, Activities Fund.
