Joseph Matthew Walsh, age 77, a resident of Pownal, died on April 28, 2017 as a result of injuries he sustained in a fall
He was born in New York City on January 19, 1940 and was the son of the late George and Margret (Broyles) Walsh. He received his education in New York.
He served in the Marine Corps from 1957 until 1960, and then spent an additional year in the Navy.
He married the former Joan Morgan on May 11, 1963 who survives.
Over the years, Joseph had been employed as a police officer in Sparta, NJ, and had worked for Mosler Safe and Lock Company. The Walsh's moved to Vermont and Joseph went to work as a cab driver for the former Red Top Cab Company in Bennington, until 1998 when they closed down.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling and doing puzzles. He was a Big Brother and loved being outdoors.
Besides his wife, of fifty-four years, he is survived by one daughter, Angela Walsh of Pownal; three grandchildren: Ryan, Robert and Ashley all of Pownal; two brothers: Matthew and Peter Walsh. He is predeceased by a sister, Mary Ellen and two brothers Michael and Mark.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 6, at the Pownal Methodist Church at 1:00PM. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal.
