BENNINGTON
Joseph W. Bourgeois, 88, a resident of Tel Road, Bennington, died Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Born in Cohoes, NY on September 5, 1929, he was one of twelve children born to the late Wilfred and Elise (Heppelle) Bourgeois. He received his education in the Bennington schools and was a graduate of Bennington High School.
Joe married the former Connie Cantara at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington on February 13, 1960.
In earlier years, Joe worked with his father in their painting and wallpapering business. He later worked for Union Carbide Corporation in Bennington until the time of his retirement.
Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, carpentry, woodworking and yardwork. For several years Joe also belonged to a Barber Shop Quartet group in Bennington.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Bourgeois of Bennington; three children, Michael (Denise) Bourgeois, Christine (Michael) Marmillo and Edward (Donna) Bourgeois, all of Bennington; six grandchildren, Alicia (Aaron) Dickie, Nicole Marmillo, Jeremy, Samantha, MacKenzie and Kyle Bourgeois; one great-grandson, Wyatt Dickie; a sister, Joan Dorman of Bennington; a brother, Donald Bourgeois of Leland, NC and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe was predeceased by nine siblings, Helen Lampron, Claire Smith, Cecile Short, Yvonne Brunet, Rachael Kinney, Eleanor Cahill, Doris Bourgeois, Marie Langevin and Roosevelt "Edward" Bourgeois.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11:15 a.m. with a prayer followed by a Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington at 12:00 noon where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Burial will take place in the Spring at the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
