Dr. Joseph C. Bamford, Jr., devoted and loving husband and father, died on May 24, 2023 at the age of 92 years. He is survived by his daughter; Elizabeth A. Bamford and her husband, Chris Jensvold of Jericho, VT. Doctor Bamsford was an obstetrician-gynecologist, medical missionary, educator, humanitarian and author. He was a member of learned colleges and societies and served on the Boards of educational, medical, artistic, community and government institutions. He was the recipient of scholastic, scientific and civic awards. He served as a lieutenant commander medical officer in the United States Navy. In addition to practicing medicine in New Jersey, New York and Vermont, Doctor Bamford served as professor and dean at New York Medical College. He and his wife, Susan, served as medical missionaries in the West Indies and in Kenya and Uganda, East Africa. Doctor Bamford also worked with Native Americans and urban minorities in the United States. Joseph and Susan established the Kagando Mission Hospital Foundation to assist Kagando Hospital and Rural Development Center in Uganda. Doctor Bamford considered his teaching medical students and his mission service to be his most meaningful and enduring contributions. He insisted they would have been impossible without the steadfast love and support of Susan. There will be no memorial service. A private interment service will be at a later date.
