BENNINGTON
Johnas "Dale" Kennedy, 72, a resident of Rice Lane, Bennington, died peacefully on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Albany Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Bowie, Texas on October 13, 1948, he was the son of the late William Preston and Margie Lucille (Wetsel) Kennedy. He received his education in the Bellevue, Texas schools and was a graduate of Bellevue High School.
Dale was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War.
In earlier years Dale worked both as a thoroughbred horse trainer in Colorado and also at Green Mountain Race Track in Pownal and later as a mechanic on oil rigs in South Texas. He returned to the Northeast and was employed as a mechanic at Morrison's Sales and Service in Bennington and Jack Byrne Ford in Mechanicville, NY before opening Kennedy Auto Service in Hoosick Falls, NY which he operated for many years. Dale's last employment was at Midas Auto Repair in Bennington where he worked until the time of his retirement.
Dale enjoyed car racing and both built and raced his own cars at Lebanon Valley Speedway for several years. An avid outdoorsman he also enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his fiancé and life partner of many years, Donna Bump of Bennington; four children, Chera Hollar (Robert Hill) of Battiest, Texas; Nancy Kennedy and her wife Kayla of New Albany, Indiana; Ryan Kennedy and his fiancé Courtney Andrew of Hoosick Falls, NY and Kevin Kennedy and his fiancé Megan Mentzer of Fort Lauderdale, FL; nine grandchildren; a brother, William Tolbert Kennedy and his wife Phillis of Bellevue, Texas; a brother-in-law, James Anderson of Arcatr, Texas; his former wife, Terri Kennedy of Bennington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Dale was predeceased by a sister, Jackie Kennedy Anderson.
Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 for 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home when the family will be in attendance.
