John Harrison Snyder

June 2, 1961 — November 22, 2023

In Loving Memory of John Snyder, John Snyder, a master blacksmith, great biker and motorcyclist with a love for travel, and devoted family man, passed away peacefully at home on November 22, 2023, leaving a legacy of passion, dedication, and love. Born on June 2, 1961 in Lawton, OK, John led a life rich in diverse experiences and professions. A true renaissance man, he showcased his skills in various roles, from working in a flower shop to mastering the art of welding and professional truck driving. His versatility and commitment were evident in every endeavor, reflecting a man who approached every challenge with determination and enthusiasm. For two decades, John dedicated himself to Green Mountain Express, where he not only worked diligently but also continued to expand his knowledge and skills. Notably, he was an accomplished participant in the state bus rodeo, highlighting his exceptional skills and precision in his profession. As a proud member of Teamster Local 597, he served as a steadfast union man, advocating for the rights and well-being of his fellow workers. Beyond his professional achievements, John was known for his love of nature, evident in his passion for riding and his appreciation for the outdoors. Although some might’ve thought it a terrible idea, many can recount a tale or two of him breaking out his motorcycle in the middle of our cold Vermont winters simply because he could. His mastery of blacksmithing stood as a testament to his creativity and craftsmanship. A great storyteller, John had a unique ability to captivate his audience, sharing his experiences with humor and wisdom, leaving a lasting impression on all who listened. However, above all else, John cherished his role as a family man. His love for his wife, Cheryl, was unwavering, and he took immense pride in being a father to Erik, Tyrissa, and Roland. His family was his anchor, and his dedication to their well-being was unparalleled. Albeit paraphrased a wise man once said that time enjoyed cannot be time wasted and not a person around could say he wasted a moment with family or friend. He always requested that everyone keep laughing; for him as it is for many, not only is laughter the best medicine but a life without humor is not much of one at all. John's warm smile, compassionate heart, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He had a long standing routine of spending many a morning on the front porch with his coffee talking with the neighbors as everyone began to go about their day. Simple as it might’ve been at the time, we can all appreciate such an unadorned moment with a little reflection, just as he did. He was always one to offer help to anyone in need in any way he could. Never accepting that one should suffer alone. His impact on his family, friends, and community is immeasurable, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, resilience, and love. Friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home 628 Main Street on Tuesday December 19 2023, from 4-6 PM. May John Snyder rest in peace, his memory living on in the hearts of those who loved him.
