John Walter Patterson Jr., 101, a resident of Olds Street, North Adams, MA died Friday, December 6, 2019 at Williamstown Commons in Williamstown, MA following a brief illness.

John was born in Pownal, Vermont on June 8, 1918, son of the late John W. and Bessie (Morgan) Patterson. He received his education in the Pownal schools

John first married the former Allaine Savery who passed away in 1972. On May 7, 1982 he married the former Elizabeth M. (Gingras) Lavigne at Incarnation Church in North Adams.

John owned and operated his own construction company for many years. In earlier years he served as Road Commissioner for the town of Pownal and also, along with his son, owned and operated Patterson's Motorcycle Shop.

For 20 years John and his wife Elizabeth wintered in Leesburg, Florida. He enjoyed camping and riding the "back roads" of Pownal.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Patterson of North Adams, MA. Three grandchildren, Deborah Montour of Bennington, Cynthia Leonard of Cambridge, NY and John S. Patterson of Oak Harbour, WA; seven great grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Dunham, Sarah Sausville, Madison Crawford, Chloe Crawford and Bonnie and Jodi Patterson; a sister, Harriet George of Pownal and a daughter-in law, Donna Patterson of Pownal along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a son, John Patterson, two brothers, Floyd and Walter Patterson and a sister, Florence (Patterson) Albers.

At Mr. Patterson's request there will be no calling hours or funeral services.

A graveside service will be held at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.
