SHAFTSBURY
John J. Kittell Sr., 90, a resident of Cleveland Avenue, Shaftsbury, died peacefully on Friday, November 23, 2018 at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.
Born in St. Johnsbury on January 8, 1928, he was the son of the late Phillip and Dorothy Kittell. John received his education in the St. Johnsbury schools.
He married the former Harriet Gadapee on October 13, 1946 in Passumpsic, VT. Harriet died June 28, 2008.
In earlier years John was employed on the family farm. At the age of 30 he moved his family to Shaftsbury where he was employed for many years as a machinist at Stanley Tools until his retirement.
John was an accomplished woodworker and over the years many of his pieces were sold at Camelot Village Gift Shop in Bennington. John always enjoyed helping his neighbors in the Shaftsbury area and the family is very grateful to the many friends and neighbors who returned the favors in the past few years.
Survivors include three children, Jamie Preston (Jim) of Salisbury; Jane Conley (Jeff) of Tolland, CT and John Kittell Jr. (Gabrielle) of Mobile, AL; seven grandchildren, Gary, Steven, Richard, Crystal, Elizabeth, Tori and Jessica; six great-grandchildren, Sarah, Marenna, Sidney, Rhianna, Ariel and Sabrina; brothers and sisters, Mickey, Guy, June, Emma, Ann and Margaret; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife John was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah Bohner.
Memorial services celebrating the life of John J. Kittell will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.
