Joanne A. Rice

Joanne A. Rice 77, a resident of Bennington, Vermont, passed away peacefully at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington on Thursday June 6th, 2024 following a long illness. Born on February 21st, 1947 in Bennington, she was the daughter of the late Alice (Davis) and Leon Hilliard Sr. Joanne was raised in Bennington and later attended Mount Anthony Union high school. Over the years, Joanne held various jobs in and around Bennington. She later began a job working for Energizer in bennington. Joanne worked there for 13 years before retiring. On July 17th, 1999, she married Harry G. Rice Jr. at their home in Bennington Vermont. Harry and Joanne were loyal campers at Lake Lauderdale Campground in Cambridge, New York, for 26 seasons. Joanne was an avid crafter. She enjoyed needle point and sequin art the most. In addition to her love for crafts, Joanne was also an animal lover especially her dogs; Keely and Honey Bear. Survivors include her husband of nearly 25 years; Harry Rice Jr. Her Daughter; Michelle Francoure (Dan). Her stepchildren; Stephanie Harwood (Russell) and Jeremy Rice. Her grandchildren; Amanda Francoure (Chris Carpenter) and Aaron Francoure. Her great granddaughter; Maribell Francoure. Her siblings; Diane Blest and Leon Hilliard Jr. Joanne was also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours at the Mahar Funeral Home in Bennington from 11am until 1pm, on Monday June 10th, 2024. At the conclusion of calling hours, there will be a funeral service at the funeral home at 1pm.
