Joan A. Wood, 84, a longtime resident of Shaftsbury, Vermont, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2021 at the Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Bennington, VT on May 29th, 1937. She was the daughter of the late John H. Malone and Marie (Cross) Janssen. Joan received her education in Bennington and was a graduate of Bennington High School. She later attended Saint Joseph's Business College in Bennington.
On August 11, 1956, Joan married John H. Wood at the First United Methodist Church in Bennington. In earlier years, Joan was employed in the business office at Putnam Memorial Hospital. She later worked for the Southwestern Vermont Supervisory Union as the Food Service Secretary, from which she retired.
She was a member of the former Bennington Club and was a member of the Shaftsbury Grange, the Shaftsbury Fire Department Auxiliary and the Shaftsbury Methodist Church. Joan was famous for her homemade donuts.
Survivors include her husband, John H. Wood, of Shaftsbury. Her children and their spouses, Donald F. Wood (Jill) of Pheonix, NY, Dawn M. King (Walter) of Stafford, VA, Deborah A. Mirallegro (John) of Ocean View, NJ and Wendy L. Lawrence (Peter) of Bennington, VT. Nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A sister, Ann Lenihan (Edmond) of Ohio and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Donald and John Malone.
Friends and family are invited to call at the Shaftsbury Methodist Church from 10-11am on December 27th, 2021, with a service beginning at 11am. Burial will follow in the family lot at the Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.
