Janet A. Laughlin

September 2, 1942 — August 16, 2016

Janet Anne Laughlin, 73, a former resident of Bennington, VT and more recently of West Palm Beach, Florida, died unexpectedly Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

She was born in Pittsburgh, PA September 2, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Matthew and Anne (Heisler) Zimmer. Jan received her education in Pittsburgh and was a graduate of Saint Benedicts Academy in Pittsburgh. She later attended cosmetology school.

She married Daniel R. Laughlin May 4, 1963 in Pittsburgh. They began a family and moved to North Bennington, VT.

Jan enjoyed playing golf and was a member of both the Mount Anthony Country Club in Bennington and Bear Lakes in West Palm Beach, Florida. Over the years, Jan recorded three hole in ones. Her family and grandchildren were her main interest. She enjoyed playing Bridge , spending time with her friends and shopping.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Daniel Rooney Laughlin of West Palm Beach, Florida, Their children Beth Flood (Ned) of Boston, MA, Kelly Gally (Sean) of Pittsburgh, PA, Kathleen Laughlin of Chicago, Illinois, Megan Powers (Ron) of New York, N.Y. and Daniel R. Laughlin Jr. of Palm Beach, Florida; Six grandchildren and one great grandson; a sister, Suzan Flavin of Northridge, California and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by a brother Matthew "Bud" Zimmer.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday August 20, at 10:15 a.m. with a prayer and then from Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington at 11:00 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday August 19, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
