James "Jim" Welch

December 27, 1946 — May 6, 2022

James E. "Jim" Welch Jr., 75, a resident of North Branch St. in Bennington, VT died Friday May 6, 2022 at his residence following a long illness.

He was born in Watertown, NY on December 27, 1946; living in Bennington from the age of 6 months. He was the son of the late James E. Welch Sr. and Nellie May (Hallsworth) Welch. He received his education in Bennington and graduated with the last class at BennHi in 1966.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.

He married the former Charlotte Louise Rodick on January 15, 1977 in Bennington, VT.

In earlier years Jim was employed at Bennington Brush, Ben Mont Paper, Triangle, National Hanger and most recently worked in the Housekeeping Department at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center from which he retired.

He was a member of Bennington Moose Lodge #1233, a Moose Legionnaire and Fellow, receiving his degree in 2010 in Nashville. He was also a member of Bennington Elks #567 and American Legion Post 13. He was a jokester, loved to fish, working dinners and clambakes, and calling bingo, but mostly loved spending time with his beloved family.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Charlotte Welch of Bennington. Daughter, Lisa Welch-Powers (Wayne) of Bennington, and extended daughter Penny (Leonard) Coffey of Canton, NY. Grandchildren Christopher (Amanda) Welch of Pownal, VT, Nellie (David) Nicholas of North Adams, MA., Megan (Alex) Boyer of Bennington, and his great grandchildren. Brother-in-law Benjamin Rodick of Unionville, CT. Two half-brothers, Michael Welch and Robin Welch of Rensselaer, NY. and two half-sisters, Debi Lesley and Kathy Tyrell of Ballston Spa, NY, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday May 14, 2022 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

The funeral will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. A celebration of his life and get-together of friends and family will be held immediately following the services at the Bennington Moose at 916 Main St., Bennington, VT.
