James Vincent Horrigan,72, a resident of Woodford, VT died unexpectedly and peacefully at his residence Saturday January 7, 2017
He was born in North Adams, MA on January 8, 1944. He was the son of the late James P. and Margaret F. ( Burns) Horrigan. Jim received his early education in North Adams and was a 1962 graduate of Bennington Catholic High School. In 1964 he graduated from Champlain College in Burlington, VT with an Associate's Degree in Business. Jim served in the Vermont National Guard from 1964 " 1970.
On September 14, 1968 Jim married the love of his life, the former Karen J. Neville at Saint Francis Church in North Adams.
He began his banking career at the Catamount Bank in Bennington where he was employed from 1968 to 1982. From 1982 to 1986 he was Executive Vice President of the Hampshire National Bank in South Hadley, MA. From 1986 until Jim retired in 2008, he was employed as the General Manager of Enfield Ford in Enfield, CT.
Jim was a familiar face around town. He was a member of the Bennington Elks Lodge # 567 and a former member of the Bennington Rotary Club and the Kiwanis Club in North Adams. He served on the school board at Sacred Heart School in Bennington and was a Bennington Town Selectman from 1980 to 1982. During retirement, Jim served as the Treasurer for the Woodford Lake Association. Right up to the day before his death, he worked diligently to support and enhance the community he loved so much.
Jim was tremendously proud of his family. Survivors include his beloved wife, Karen J. Horrigan of Woodford. Their children, Amy McCormack and her husband Mark of North Grafton, MA and Shawn Horrigan and his family, Samantha and Patricia of Ware, MA; grandchildren, Lainey and Phin McCormack of North Grafton. A brother John P. Horrigan of Dalton, MA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a sister Maureen Racette who died in 1990. Jim was a constant source of support and encouragement, a presence his family will miss deeply.
Jim's family and friends will forever remember him for his quick wit, huge heart and unwavering loyalty. He took great pride in his home and his family finds peace knowing he fulfilled his dream of living on the mountain for the rest of his life.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday January 11, 2017 with a prayer at 11:00 am and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11:30 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Because of Jim's enormous Patriotic spirit, his family suggests that in lieu of flowers, any contributions in memory of James Vincent Horrigan may be made to "Homes for Our Troops."
