James F. King Jr., 83, resident of Bennington, Vermont, passed away on September 1, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
James was born on June 27, 1941 to the late James and Charlotte King. He would go on to receive his education in the Arlington area.
James married Mary Schneski on September 3, 1966 at the Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. They would go on to have two sons: James King III, and Patrick Michael King.
Jim was a proud Marine who served in the Vietnam War during the TET offensive. Though he suffered severe PTSD, he put one foot in front of the other to go forward each day. Jim was a wonderful mechanic and electronic repair person, who people went to for his knowledge. He was a proud member of the Bennington Rural Fire Department for 45 years. James was also a member of the VFW in Bennington, Vietnam Veterans, and the American Legion.
James is survived by his loving wife, Mary King; his sons, James King III, and Patrick Michael King; a sister, Kathy Gallett; sisters-in-law, Patricia Babcock of Bennington, and Rose Marie Schneski of Las Vegas; and several nieces and nephews.
James is predeceased by his parents, and two sisters – Mary Gallett, and Christine Cornish.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 12:00 pm. Friends and relatives are invited for a time of visitation prior to the Mass, held at Mahar Funeral Home in Bennington from 10:30-11:30 am on September 9, 2024. Following the Mass of Christian Burial, graveside services with military honors for James will be held at the Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.
Should friends desire, contributions in memory of James can be made out to the Vermont Paws and Boots through the office at Mahar Funeral Home in Bennington.
