James David Atwood

June 30, 1968 — August 8, 2021

James David Atwood, 53, a resident of Easy Street, Hoosick Falls, NY died Sunday, August 8, 2021 in his home state at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness.

Born in Bennington on June 30, 1968, he was the son of the late David Atwood and Teri (Gauthier) Atwood. He received his education in the Bennington schools. In earlier years Jim worked at Caslin's Store in Bennington and later was employed for 33 years in the maintenance department at the Vermont Veterans Home until his recent retirement.

Jim loved the outdoors. He was an avid dirt bike rider, enjoyed playing golf and was just glad to be outside and active. He loved to make people laugh.

Christine would like to thank everyone on "Team Atwood" for their many acts of kindness to both Jim and Chris during Jim's illness. A special big Shout Out to Josh LaPointe and his two nephews, Josh and James. You Will Never Be Forgotten!

Survivors include his wife, Christine D. Atwood of Hoosick Falls; his mother, Teri Atwood and his sister, Susan Atwood-Freeman (Bill), both of Shaftsbury; three children that he raised as his own, Will Mabee (Kayla), Benjamin Mabee Jennie Robinson and Jennie Mabee, his Granddaughter and pride and joy and light of his life, Harper Mabee; Sisters and brother-in-law; many nieces, and nephews and dear friend Bonnie Sauer.

At Jim's request no services will be held.

Donations in Jim's memory may be made to Mahar & Son Funeral Home to be used for Harper's education.

Jim's family would like to send a huge Thank You to the ICU Staff for making him feel like he was the King of the Kingdom.
