Irene Louise Karyo, 73, a resident of Evergreen Drive, in Bennington, Vermont died Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Saint Peter's Hospital in Albany, New York following a brief illness.
She was born in Troy, NY September 8, 1944. She was the daughter of the late James and Irene Elvira Simpson.
Irene married Alain Robert Karyo on June 12, 1988. Irene and Alain, shortly after, created a business together in Bennington, Vermont. Catamount Glass has been a nation-wide, family owned business that still thrives today. Recently, they added on to their business and formed The Tap House at the same location.
Irene's biggest passions were sailing and traveling with Alain, going to her great grandson Ethan's baseball games and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her soulmate and husband, Alain Karyo and their children and spouses, Adam and Amy Volpi, Todd Volpi, Jason Volpi and wife Noel, Gui and Rachel Karyo, Ghislaine and Ryan Seiffert. They have nine grandchildren: Kristina, Justin, Zachary, Lauren, Jacob, Brandon, Jessica, Sonya and Remi. They also have two great grandchildren, Ethan and Skyler. She is survived by her brother James Simpson and his wife Connie. Irene is predeceased by her sister Patty Limoges. Irene also has nieces, nephews and cousins. She truly loved her whole family with all of her being. She was a strong woman with a big heart; she would do anything for anyone.
A graveside service will take place at the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery on Monday, July 9, at 11:00 a.m. Family and close friends are invited to the Karyo residence following the ceremony. Shivah will be held at the family residence on Tuesday and Wednesday, from 2 - 5 p.m. Address for both occasions is 116 Evergreen Drive, Bennington. Vermont 05201.
