Iona Violet Choquette, 83, a former resident of Readsboro and Twin Maples in Bennington died Sunday, June 18, 2017 at the Vermont Veterans Home.
Born on February 15, 1934 in Readsboro, VT, she was the daughter of the late Deliverance and Grace (Bowen) Wheeler. Iona received her early education in Readsboro and was a graduate of Drury High School in North Adams, MA.
She married Joseph N. Choquette on March 8, 1952 at the Readsboro Baptist Church. Mr. Choquette died February 4, 1983.
Joe and Iona lived in Endicott, NY for a time before moving to Mt. Dora, FL where they resided for many years.
For several years Iona was employed at a nursery and tree farm. Her favorite past times included raising plants and flowers at her home.
Survivors include a son, Aaron Choquette of Eustis, Fl; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dale Wheeler of Keene, NH, Carl Wheeler of Swanzey, NH and Donald Wheeler of Readsboro and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Iona was predeceased by four sons, Steven, John, David and Timothy Choquette.
The funeral will be held from the Four Chaplains All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Kenneth Coonradt officiating.
Burial will take place at Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, GA.
