Hugo J. Maroni

August 14, 1928 — August 1, 2016

Hugo J. Maroni, age 87, a former resident of Stamford, VT, and more recently of the Vermont Veterans Home died on Monday morning, August 1, 2016.

He was born in North Adams, MA, August 14, 1928 and was the son of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Vicari) Maroni. He received his education in North Adams schools.

Mr. Maroni served in the United States Army.

He married the former Jeanette Lussier in 1950, Mrs. Maroni survives.

In earlier years, Hugo was employed at the Sprague Electric Company in North Adams and for sixteen years was employed as a carpenter at North Adams State College.

Mr. Maroni was an avid hunter and raised homing pigeons.

Survivors besides his wife include a son, Steve Maroni and his wife Mary Skovira of Burlington, VT, a daughter Diane Shakar and her husband Richard of Ballston Spa, NY and a brother, John Maroni and his wife, Maryann of Clarksburg, MA. Hugo is also survived by two grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by a brother Frank Maroni and two sisters: Ida Estes and Rena Bormolini.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 4, at 12:00 Noon at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. in Bennington.

Interment will follow in the family lot in Millard Cemetery in Stamford, VT
