HUGH E. GALVIN, III OBITUARY
BENNINGTON, VERMONT
Hugh Edward Galvin, III, age 79, a resident of Park St. in Bennington, died on Monday, March 20, 2017.
He was born in Bennington on May 30, 1937 and was the son of the late Hugh E. and Helen (Baker) Galvin, Jr. He received his education in Bennington. He married the former Beverly Ann Daigneault on February 6, 1960. Mrs. Galvin survives.
Over the years, he has worked at the A&P, Bromley Mountain Ski Center, Union-Carbide which eventually became Energizer, from which he retired. Hugh was a member of the Vermont National Guard and the Army Reserve.
After retiring he volunteered with RSVP at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington working in the Gift Shop. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree.
He enjoyed skiing, golfing and spending time with his many grandchildren and attending their various activities and sporting events.
Besides his wife of fifty-seven years, he is survived by his children: Theresa Sabia (Walter) of Bennington, VT. Lisa Guare of Bennington, Hugh Galvin, IV (Tammy) of Williamstown, MA, Ginger Hollis of Bennington, Eric Galvin of So. Glens Falls, NY, Tanya Loftus (James) of Bennington, VT.
He leaves twenty grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.
Hugh is predeceased by one brother, Francis Galvin and one sister, Viola Galvin.
A prayer service will be held on Thursday morning, March 23, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. in Bennington, followed by a Mass of Christian Death and Burial at 11:30 AM at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington.
Interment will follow in White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5-7PM, and on Thursday morning from 10::00 until the time of the prayer service.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home.
