Howard A. "Butch" Tripp Jr., 78, a resident of Bennington, VT, died peacefully on
Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at home after a long illness.
Born in Bennington on October 7, 1939, he was the son of the late Howard and Rose
(Foucher) Tripp Sr. He received his education in Bennington and graduated from Benn
High in 1957.
After working at Stanley Tools for many years, Butch retired when the plant in
Shaftsbury closed. While at Stanley several of his suggestions were recognized and
applied to the manufacturing process. He was also union president for several years.
Had he understood Bernie was running he would have been one of his biggest
supporters, defending labors rights.
He enjoyed his flowers that surrounded his yard, especially tulips, peonies and a special
Rose bush. He was an avid woodworker having built several rocking horses, toy boxes
and other wooden items for his grandchildren. He excelled at pool, especially 8-ball,
winning individual honors for high average score and wins several times in a local
league. He loved everything Red Sox and Patriots.
Survivors include three sons, Donald (Lisa) Tripp of Underhill, VT, Kevin (Amy) of
Gilford, NH, Robin (Bonnie) of Pownal, VT, two daughters, Lisa (Jim) Craig of
LaPalma, CA, Crystal (Mike) Armstrong of Fort Myers, FL, a brother David (Donna)
Tripp and a sister Cheryl Cleveland of Pittsfield, MA., Mr. Kitty, fifteen grandchildren
and step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and
cousins. Butch was predeceased by two sisters, Lorraine Jankowy and Pauline Herlihy.
There will be no services at this time. Burial will take place this summer at Park Lawn
Cemetery, a notice will be placed in the Bennington Banner.
