Herbert Alan Percey, 74, a resident of Shaftsbury, VT died on Sunday evening, September 26, 2021, at the Albany Medical Center.
Herb was born in Bennington, Vermont on October 25, 1946, the second son of the late Ralph W. Percey Sr. and Audrey (Rowe) Percey. Herb received his education in Shaftsbury and North Bennington. He was a graduate of North Bennington High School. Upon graduation, Herb enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he received many awards, including Airman Marksman, Air Force Police, and earned a Purple Heart from his service in Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Herb enlisted in the Vermont Army National Guard.
In earlier years, Herb worked at Schmelzer's in Bennington as a production supervisor. Upon their closing, Herb was employed at Hale Furniture Company in Arlington, VT as sprayer. Most recently, Herb worked Security at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, from which he retired in 2012. Herb always looked forward to retirement. He enjoyed his trips to Perkins Cove, Maine with Dee best. He loved the peaceful feeling, the fishing boats, and eating lots of lobster.
Herb and Dee (the former Dolores Milligan) were married on Easter Sunday, April 7, 1985, at home with family and friends in Bennington. Herb enjoyed going out to dinner, morning coffee with friends, watching westerns, travelling to Lake George and Maine, and hanging out at Lake Paran.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores Percey of Shaftsbury. Herb also leaves his children: two daughters, two sons and two step-daughters: Doreena Elwell (Jon) of Ashburn, Virginia; Herb A. Percey Jr. of Orlando, Florida; Christopher Percey (Kristina) of Pittsfield, MA; Rebekah Bruneau (Albert) of Victoria, Virginia; Rebecca Bishop (Michael Ware Sr.) of Shaftsbury, VT, and Allison Bishop (Timothy) of Bennington. Herb leaves fourteen beloved grandchildren: Miranda, Joshua and Brenna Elwell, Ethan and Madison Percey, Tyler St. Gelais, Aidan Auge, Connor Percey, Brodie and Briana Bruneau, Brandon Taber, Jack Ware, Tyler Walsh, and Adeline Bishop. Herb leaves two special aunts Helen Baker and Marie Ayers, and nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his parents and his older brother Ralph "Skip" Percey, Jr. and many aunts and uncles in his loving, extended family.
At Herb's request there will be no calling hours or funeral services. A graveside service with military honors will take place at the Percey family lot at Hindsville Cemetery in North Bennington, Vermont, at the convenience of the family.
