Mrs. Helen M. Shaw, 96, a resident of Mailbox Way, White Creek, NY passed away peacefully on November 1st, 2022 at Bennington Health and Rehab. She was born in Bennington, VT on June 25, 1926 to the late Elmer VanNess and Ella (Cross) VanNess Aleksonis. Helen received her education in North Bennington and was a graduate of the former North Bennington High School Class of 1944. Mr. & Mrs. Shaw were married on August 23rd, 1944 in North Bennington at the Old Stone Church. Stanley passed away on October 19th, 2016. In earlier years Mrs. Shaw was employed at Tansitor Electronics in Bennington, and later at Stanley Tool in Shaftsbury. Mrs. Shaw was later employed at Mt. Anthony Union High School in food service until the time of her retirement. Mrs. Shaw was a member of the North Bennington Baptist Church and was an organist at the church for thirty years. She also enjoyed playing piano at various nursing homes in the area. Survivors include three daughters, Jo-Ann Watson, of Shaftsbury, Debra Latif, of South Carolina, and Patricia Watson, of Bennington; two sons, Richard S. Shaw, of Minnesota and Darryl R. Shaw, of Washington; eleven grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Paulin, of Shaftsbury and Shirley Kelly, of Bennington; a brother Gerald VanNess, of Ohio. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Shaw was predeceased by her husband, Stanley P. Shaw, a brother, Robert VanNess and a sister, Lucille Hacking, of Bennington. Services will be held in the summer of 2023 at the convenience of the family, and will be announced when available.
