Helen Elizabeth Kelly Merwin died on June 21, 2017 in Milford, CT
She was born in Utica, New York on March 20, 1924. She was the daughter of the late John and Agnes (Hickey) Kelly. She graduated from local schools in Utica and was employed at Rome Army Air Base during World War II. She later was employed by I.B.M in Utica as a stenographer, until her marriage in 1948.
While living in NYC, she was a staff member at St. John's University in Queens, NY. Retiring in 1986 to the mountains in Arlington, VT., she continued her interest in music by singing with the Arlington Chorale and as organist at Saint Margaret Mary's Church.
In 2005 she left Vermont and spent her remaining years at the shore in West Haven, CT.
Besides her husband Don, she is survived by her daughter Susan, two grandsons, Andrew and Keith, one brother John, and nieces and nephews. Sisters Rose, Dorothy and Mary and brother, Jim, predecease her.
The funeral will be held from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington on Tuesday June 27, at 1:00 p.m.
The burial will follow in the family lot at St. Columban's Cemetery in Arlington.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Helen may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Memphis, TN 38101.
