HAZEL MARY BURGESS HARRISON CANDIB OBITUARY
BENNINGTON, VERMONT
Hazel Mary Burgess Harrison Candib, age 80, a resident of Coleville Road in Bennington, died on Monday, August 21, 2017 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation.
She was born in Bennington on May 19, 1937 and was the daughter of the late Earl and Helen (Briggs) Burgess. She received her education in Bennington schools and is a graduate of Bennington High School.
For many years, Hazel was employed as a substitute teacher in the Bennington School District.
Hazel was a member of the First Baptist Church for many years, and had attended other churches over the years including Temple Beth El and Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales. She was involved in Church World Services and Church Women United.
Her favorite pastimes included attending church, teaching Bible School, and being part of the Master Merry Messengers Clown Ministries. For more than 25 years, Hazel was "Circles the Clown". She also enjoyed journaling. Hazel was a very caring person who was always very helpful. She loved children, her many volunteer pursuits, and to laugh with family and friends. .
On January 9, 2005, she married Leonard Candib in Bennington, He survives.
Other survivors besides her husband include her five daughters: Elaine Harrison of Westhampton, MA, Kay Jean (Rick) Hardin of Brookfield, CT, Judith (William) Warner of Melrose, MA, Coleen (Jeff) Jutkiewicz of Glens Falls, NY, and Sharon Jones of Glens Falls, NY.
Hazel leaves her grandchildren: Jason, Nicholas, and Phillip Wagner, Kelsey Warner and Dana Warner, Katelyn (Jeremy) Redus, Kelly (Edward) Brooking, Wesley Jones, and Ashley Jones, as well as her great grandchildren Alexia, Hanna, Niko, Sophie, Eva, Stella, Levon, Dylan, Jordan, and Wesley, Jr.
Hazel has one surviving brother Edward Burgess, and was predeceased by her siblings Earl Burgess Jr., Elizabeth Kearns, Chester Burgess, Barbara Reynolds, and George Burgess.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday morning, August 26, at the First Baptist Church, Main St. in Bennington at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday morning from 9:00AM until 10:30AM.
