Harry L. Sanders, Jr. 1930 "2016
Harry L Sanders Jr. passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Bennington on April 13, 1930 to Harry L. Sanders and Lucy Russell Sanders. He attended schools in the Bennington area and joined the Army in 1949. When he returned from the army he began his truck driving career with Gay's Express. He also drove for Tek Hughes, Playtex and West Coast Optical as well as being an owner operator while in Florida. In the early 1960s he owned and operated Sanders Fish Market on BenMont Avenue. He retired to Florida with his wife, Ingeborg Sanders who died May 24, 2005. He returned to VT and lived in the West Road Trailer Park until he moved to the Silver St. apartments. He made many friends during his time on Silver St.
He is survived by his son, Harry Sanders III and partner Heather of Shaftsbury, daughters Karen Sue Douglas of Bennington and Barbara Carpenter of Corning, NY. In addition, he is survived by step daughters Christine Sansone, Vanessa Loomis and Shirley Ann Lewis.
He is also survived by grandchildren Lyle and Abigail Sanders, Dan Herrmann, Emma Snyder, Nathan Carpenter, Terry, Chad and Kathy Hastings, Kayla and Kaitlyn Douglas, Nikia Hebbard and many great grandchildren.
Harry is survived by brothers, Clyde and Frank Sanders and his sister, Mary Baker. He was predeceased by sisters Dorothy Buffum, Joan Devlin, Sally Mattat and Irene Sanders.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Harry's memory can be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter in Shaftsbury.
Services will be private for his family.
