Harold J. Legacy, 83, a resident of Albe Drive, Bennington, died Monday evening at Bennington Health & Rehabilitation surrounded by his family
Born in Bennington March 1, 1934, he was the son of the late Walter P. Legacy Sr. and Antoinette (LaFlamme) Legacy. He received his education in the Bennington schools
Harold was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 until 1956. While in the Air Force he served as a crew chief with the 25th Fighter Inceptor Squadron.
He married the former Marie Mattison in Bennington on August 4, 1962.
In earlier years Harold was employed at the Vermont Gas Company and later at Home Furniture. He then went to work at Haynes & Kane Furniture Store in Bennington for 28 years until his retirement in 1996. He was a former firefighter in Bennington
Harold was a member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Harold and Marie were huge fans of scholastic wrestling, and were the founders of the Pep Squad for the wrestling team at Mt. Anthony Union High School. He loved to laugh and put smiles on the faces of those around him.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Legacy of Bennington; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Kelley Legacy and Shawn and Becky Legacy, all of Shaftsbury, He leaves five grandchildren; Scott Legacy II, of Shaftsbury, VT, Damian Legacy and Matthew Chait of Alexandria, VA, Amber Legacy, Brinkley Legacy and Donovan Santisteban, and Brianna Legacy and Bruce Bush, all of Shaftsbury, as well as one brother Dick Rabideau and his wife Evie of Petersburg, NY and two special friends; Eric Becker of Shaftsbury and Roy Slade of Woodford, Vermont
A Mass of Christian Death and Burial will be held at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM, offered by his grandson, Bishop Damian Legacy. Interment will follow in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 until 7 PM, and on Friday morning from 10:00 until the time of the mass.
