Gwendolyn Ann Mattison, 47 of Bennington, VT, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. Gwen was born in Bennington on July 13, 1976, the daughter of Gary and Geraldine (Salter) Mattison. Gwen was educated in Shaftsbury and Bennington schools and was a graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School. She enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Veterinary Technician from 1994-1998. She was a graduate of the SWVMC nursing program and was an LPN at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, CHP, and the Vermont Veterans Home. She was a member of class 8 with Vermont Paws and Boots in Bennington and devoted much of her time to the organization after graduation. She loved dancing and when she was able participated in classes at Berkshire Dance Theatre. She was also a member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. Gwen is survived by her children: Dana McCormick of Bennington, VT and Ryan McCormick of North Adams, MA, a grandson, Julian Strain-McCormick, her mother, Geraldine “Geri” Mattison of Bennington, her father, Gary Mattison, her sister, Rachel (Joshua) Borge of Manchester, NH, her nephews; Sam and Isaac Borge, Grandfather Erwin Mattison of Bennington, and her constant companion, Sasquatch. Her many devoted Aunts, Uncles, and cousins from Florida to Maine, and Utah to Texas. She was predeceased by a grandson, Jasper Strain-McCormick who passed away in December 2015. A Celebration of Life will take place at Vermont Paws and Boots in Bennington, VT on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 1:00 PM. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Vermont Paws and Boots or Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, Vermont Chapter 26-3, additionally, through volunteering your time to help out at Vermont Paws and Boots in her memory.
