Gregory A. Squiers (Squiers)

Gregory Allen Squiers (known to most as Greg) of Bennington, Vermont born 3/19/1947 passed away on 3/18/2020 at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York. His passing comes after a three-week battle post cardiac arrest. Preceded in death by his parents Claude and Adeline Squiers, and brother Richard Squiers. He is survived by his wife Pat Squiers (Tatro); they were married and shared their life together for over 50 years. He is also survived by his three children Lisa Callanan, Gregory R. Squiers and Elizabeth Cranker; and 4 grandchildren Ashley Callanan, Courtney Callanan, Carl Cranker IV, and Elise Cranker; and one great- grandson Wyatt Sweet. Surviving siblings include Carl Squiers, Roy Squiers, George Squiers, Pauline Moffit, Matilda Blodgett, and Stella Hoot along with many nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School, where he was a very active member of the wrestling team. Shortly after graduation he became a member of the United States Army Corp serving a tour in Korea. After his time in the military he returned to Bennington, VT where he raised a family and lived out the rest of his days. He enjoyed working with his hands; he was employed with Beaudoin Blacktopping as a paver operator for over 20 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his day -enjoying spending time outdoors with his family. He lived life on his terms, living simply and genuinely. He was a very strong -willed person and overcame great odds the last 3 weeks both physically and mentally. Even while unable to speak his sarcastic humor can shining through with his animated facial expressions. He is loved and will be missed greatly by his family and friends. A memorial service will be planned on a later date. In lieu of any flowers the family ask that if you wish to make any donations please do so to the Bennington Rescue Squad " this caring team gave him a fighting hope and chance to say his goodbyes to his family which they will be forever grateful for.
