Gerald H. Amadon passed away on September 22, 2021 at the age of 98. He was born in Bennington on November 6, 1922. He was the son of Henry and Francena (Scrivens) Amadon. He received his early education in Pownal and graduated from Bennington High School in 1940.
Gerald served in the US Army during World War II. Following his discharge from the Army, he married Loretta Lanoue on November 30, 1946 at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington. Loretta passed away on September 6, 1998.
He worked for Central Vermont Public Service/Green Mountain Power for 38 years and retired as a first class lineman in 1984. He was known for his hard work ethic, but also enjoyed spending time with his family traveling around the northeast in the family's travel trailer. He had a calm, caring, thoughtful demeanor that got brighter and brighter as he aged. He and Loretta had a great love for the community and developed lifelong friendships with their neighbors. He loved wintering in Florida with Loretta at the Great Outdoors in Titusville, Florida where he used his handyman skills to help others and developed lifelong friendships with the Florida community. In Bennington he was active in the Full Gospel Business Man, the Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart St. Francis parish where he served in many roles of the years.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-laws, Dennis and Jo-Anne Amadon of Bennington, Steven and Michal Amadon of Culpepper Virginia, Christopher and Amy Jo Amadon of Coral Springs Florida and Daniel and Deborah Amadon of Bennington; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Gerald was preceded by his parents, wife Loretta, daughter Debra Amadon and great grandson Brian Dezaki and four sisters Rachel McCoy, Harriet Mc Clenithan, Lois Babcock and Martha Williamson.
The family would like to thank the dedicated and caring staff at Rivers Edge Community Care Home and Hospice for their support and loving care their gave Gerry while he was with them.
A mass of Christian burial will take place at Sacred Heart Saint Francis Church on Tuesday September 28, 2021 at 12:00 noon. A private committal service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Contributions can be made in his name to the School of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales or HIS Pantry through the office of Mahar and Son Funeral Home.
