GEORGE EDWARD WHITMAN
POWNAL, VERMONT
George Edward Whitman, age 76, a resident of Barber Pond Rd. in Pownal, died on Sunday morning, May 13, 2018 at his home, following brief illness.
He was born in Bennington, the son of the late George H. and Clarissa J. (Dusablon) Whitman. He received his education in local schools. George married the former Linda Gunter on March 24, 1962. Over the years he has been employed at the former Polygraphic in North Bennington, Johnson Controls in Bennington for 29 years, and his last employment was with The Taconic Company in Petersburgh, NY. He was an industrial mechanic maintenance technician.
George enjoyed hunting, tinkering with cars and car maintenance. He enjoyed yard work. He built the family home in Pownal. He enjoyed traveling and spending time in Old Orchard Beach, ME. George was a " Good Man" and a helpful neighbor to anyone who asked for help. He loved spending time with the family .
Besides his wife he is survived by three sons: George Henry Whitman of Bennington, VT, Scott Edward Whitman of Whitingham, VT, and Daniel William Whitman of Pownal, VT. He leaves two grandsons: Adam (Jess) Whitman of No. Adams, MA and Logan Fortune of Hoosick Falls, NY. George also leaves two sisters: Theresa Eastman of Bennington, and Vivian Seidler of Bennington, and three brothers: Albert Whitman of Washington State, David Whitman of Bennington and Douglas (Sutzie) Whitman of Texas. George is also survived by two brothers-in-law: James Gunter of Albany, NY and Brian "Gus" Gunter of Williamstown, MA and sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Dani (Robert) Bernard of Orange, VA as well as nieces and nephews.
At George's request there will not be any services.
The Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington is assisting the family at this time.
