George E. Prouty, 67, a resident of Chapel Road in Bennington died following a brief illness on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at his residence.
Mr. Prouty was born in Auburn, California on July 27, 1953. He was the son of the late George W. Prouty and Leona (Davis) Prouty Beattie. George received his early education in Arlington, VT and was a 1971 graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School.
George first married the former Pamela Patten. He later married the former Jo-Anne Burgess on August 20, 1977.
George was an entrepreneur and idealist. From 1985 to 2005, George owned and operated Prouty's Professional Cleaning. In 2005, George founded Pickett Hill Guide Service, a hunting and fishing guide service. He loved entertaining his clients from around the world, and sharing his love for and knowledge of Vermont's natural beauty and wildlife.
He loved to play golf and enjoyed both lake & fly fishing. He was an avid and skilled hunter (including deer, turkey, moose, bear). Spending time in the great outdoors was his passion. George also enjoyed teaching the hunter safety courses to local youth. He spent countless hours with his friends, and his beloved Golden Retriever, Gracie Lou.
Survivors include his former wife, Jo-Anne Burgess Prouty of Bennington; three children and one grandchild, Sarah Prouty and her life partner Lane Crites of Melbourne, Florida; Nate Prouty, his wife Devrie, and their son Nicholas of Framingham, MA; and Jenifer Prouty Hoffman and her husband Jonathan of North Bennington, VT. George loved his grandson more than anything and was looking forward to welcoming Nick's brother to the world next month. Survivors also include three brothers, Daniel Prouty and his wife Lucie, James Prouty and his wife Irene, Frank Prouty and his wife Kristi, and a sister, Debbie Owens, all of Mount Dora, Florida; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Prouty.
At George's request there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
