Gene Arthur Stevens Sr.

February 16, 1949 — August 26, 2018

Gene Arthur Stevens, Sr. age 69, a resident of Orchard Road in Bennington, died Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Crescent Manor Care Center in Bennington.

He was born in Hoosick Falls, NY on February 16, 1949, and was the son of the late Seymour H. and Beulah ( Burdick) Stevens. He received his education in local schools.

He loved Bluegrass Music and playing guitar. Gene was an avid Ham Radio Operator, and loved going for rides. He was a great storyteller, and was frequently found at OTB.

Predeceased by the mother of his children, Kathleen Bortell Stevens and long time companion, Ruth Roarabach.

He is survived by his twin sister, Martha Shoff of North Hoosick, NY, and his children: Tracy (Amanda) Stevens, and Gene Stevens, Jr, both of Arlington, VT, Timothy ( Bernice) Bortell of Bennington, Terry ( Lisa) Bortell of Florida, Mike (Kris) Bortell of Pownal, Patty (Mancy) Jones of Bennington, and Kenny Bortell of Middlebury, VT. He leaves his grandchildren: Lydia, Emily, Kayla, Robert, Kyle, TJ, Carmen, Christopher, Andrew, Dana, Matt and Charlie. His great grandchildren: Emma and Alexander.

Gene leaves his close friends, Michael Starkey, grandson in heart, Joe Taylor, and Maureen Wilt.

Services will be private by his family. There are no calling hours scheduled.

Memorial contributions may be made to Second Chance Animal Shelter.

The Mahar and Son Funeral Home is assisting the family at this time.
