Gay Every-Baker, 54, a resident of East Road in Bennington, VT died Sunday February 28, 2016, after her courageous battle with cancer. She passed peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born in Endicott, New York January 6, 1962 and grew up in Owego, New York. She was the daughter of Reginald H. Every and the late Jane (Herdman) Every. She was a graduate of Owego Free Academy and SUNY Delhi, both in New York, where she received a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management.
Gay married Michael Baker, of Apalachin, New York, August 3, 1985 in Owego, New York. They lived on Long Island for a brief period before moving to Bennington in April of 1987.
In earlier years Gay worked at Southern Vermont College in Bennington and Ashwood Nursery in Shaftsbury. For many years she was employed as the Special Events Coordinator at the Bennington Chamber of Commerce. Gay went far beyond her responsibilities at the Chamber to help build a sense of community. She worked endless hours to better Bennington.
Gay enjoyed gardening and traveling. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family.
Gay helped pioneer the way to cope with illness. Her strong passion for using holistic modalities during her journey with cancer in turn encouraged others within the community to explore how to help themselves.
Survivors include her husband Michael Baker of Bennington. Her children, Zoe Baker and Ellis Baker both of Bennington. Her father, Reginald Every of Owego, New York, a brother Douglas Every of Owego, New York and two sisters, Karen Every-Andrews and her husband, Ken Andrews of Summerville, South Carolina and Kim Sullivan and her husband, Tim Sullivan of Candor, New York along with three nieces and three nephews.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday, March 11, 4-7.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Gay's life at the Masonic Hall on Main St. in Bennington on Saturday, March 12, 1-4.
