Gary L. Reed passed away on 12/13/2023 at the age of 81 in his hometown of Bennington, VT. He was the son of Hazel (Morse) Reed and Luther Jesse Reed Sr. Gary was born on 11/20/1942. He is predeceased by his wife Linda Sue Reed, his mother Hazel Reed, his father Luther Jesse Reed Sr, and his brother Luther Jesse Reed Jr. He is survived by his son Gary M. Reed, his daughter Tammy O’Kane and son-in-law Joseph O’Kane IV, his son James Reed, his daughter Kim Grenier and son-in-law Matt Grenier, his daughter Alison Burns and son-in-law Richard Burns; his grandchildren Samuel Reed, Brooke Reed, Madison Metcalf, Dominick Metcalf, Ashley O’Kane, Joseph O’Kane V, Nicholas Reed, Jacob Reed, Emmylou Rose Reed, Trenton Reed, Cheyanne Bourn, Kiersten Paradis, Lukas Snyder-Reed, Max Grenier, Owen Grenier, Zach Burns, Ben Burns, Thomas Burns, Lucas Burns and Abigal Burns. He is also survived by a brother, James Reed. For most of his life Gary worked as a truck driver and for a few years at Bennington College as a Security Guard where he was President of the Union. Gary and Linda also operated their own business, Reeds Shuttle Service, for many years. Outside of work Gary enjoyed spending time fishing and boating with his brother Jesse, deer hunting, eating out at Benson’s restaurant with his wife Linda, and loved listening to old-school country music. He also proudly served in the Marines for 4 years. Gary was very devoted to his family. He always attended his children’s sporting events and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He had a big heart for his dogs. His children have fond memories of playing capture the flag, yearly summer family trips to Storytown in Lake George, NY and building a backyard basketball court together. The doors of Gary’s home were always open to extra guests or those just in need of a place to stay. There will be no formal services for Gary, as the family plans to hold a celebration of life per Gary’s request at a later date. The family thanks you for your thoughts, prayers, and sympathy.
