Gary S. Lyons

November 10, 1955 — December 11, 2016

Gary S. Lyons, 61, a resident of Airport Road, Shaftsbury, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at his home.

Born in Bennington on November 10, 2016 he was the son of the late Gordon H. Lyons and the former Patricia (Davey) Lyons who survives. Gary received his education in the Bennington schools and was a 1975 graduate of Mt. Anthony Union High School.

Gary was active in the family business, Davey Oil, Inc., in Bennington for many years and upon the death of his father in 2006 became vice president of the company.

Gary was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, water skiing, snowmobiling and was a lover of animals.

Survivors include his mother, Patricia D. Lyons of Bennington; a sister and brother-in-law, Sharon L. and Gordon Sadler of Burlington; a brother, Michael D. Lyons of Monkton, VT; five nieces and nephews, Alden and Reid Sadler, Lianna and Jeremy Lyons and Samantha Lyons and a great-nephew, Kowan Lyons. Gary was predeceased by a brother, Guy F. Lyons.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Robert Wiseman, c.s.c. officiating.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
