FREDIA MIKA OBITUARTY
SHAFTSBURY, VERMONT
Fredia Mary Mika, age 82, a resident of Shaftsbury and former longtime resident of Chicopee, MA, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 10, 2017 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT, with her loving family at her side.
She was born on April 30, 1934 in Chicopee, MA and was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Walczek) Bielanski. She received her education in Chicopee schools and is a graduate of Chicopee High School.
Fredia married Walter John Mika on May 2, 1953. Mr. Mika survives.
For many years, she was employed at Emily's Bridal Shop in Chicopee as a sales associate.
Fredia loved her family and her home. She enjoyed spending time out doors doing yard maintenance and creating floral arrangements. So also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and cooking.
She was extremely talented at fixing things, "a real handiwoman".
Besides her husband, Mrs. Mika is survived by her two children: Christine (Michael) Keenan of Shaftsbury, VT and David (Elise) Mika of Winslow, ME. She has five grandchildren: Daniel Keenan of Old Bennington, VT, Sara Mika of Essex, VT, John Mika of Essex, VT, Catherine Mika of Essex, VT and Steven Mika of Tennessee. She leaves two great grandchildren; Savannah and Karmen. She has two sister-in-law's surviving, Claire Bielanski and Dorothy Newman and several nieces, nephews and two Godchildren. She is predeceased by her brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning, April 29, at 11:30AM at St. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr Church, 40 Cyman Drive, Chicopee, MA. Interment will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery on Montgomery Street in Chicopee. A luncheon will be provided at the Cavalier Restaurant in Chicopee, following the interment services.
There are no calling hours scheduled.
