Fred E. Phillips

Born on May 3rd, 1937, in Bennington, Vermont. He was the son of the Late Arthur and Emmaretta (Allen) Phillips. Fred was raised in Bennington and attended Bennington High School. He later received his associates degree in Business from St Joseph's College of Bennington.
On June 28th, 1958, Fred married the former Florence Elizabeth "Betty" MacLean at the Bennington Methodist Church on Main Street in Bennington.
Fred was the Plant Controller for nearly 25 years at Johnson Controls in Bennington (formerly Globe Union). With the Company, Fred and his family relocated to Michigan in 1978 and later Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1980.
Fred and Betty bought their home and returned to Bennington in 2000, here they enjoyed many years of entertaining and completing the daily tasks that go along with owning a home.
Fred was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #567, in Bennington. He was also a Member of the Bennington Select Board.
In his free time, Fred enjoyed painting. He even took up sign painting as a side gig, painting signs for Johnson Controls and Willys Variety. Another passion of Fred's was Cars and Car Shows. He especially loved to show off his Mercury Marauder. Fred rarely took the car out without being complimented or turning a few heads along the way. In earlier years he enjoyed vacationing and visiting Betty's family in Canada.
Fred is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Florence "Betty" Phillips. their son and daughter in law; Mark and Beth Phillips of Jackson, Wisconsin. He is also survived by a sister; Lillian Phillips of Bennington, Vermont
Fred is predeceased by four sisters; Shirley Phillips, Bea O'Brien, Carol Phillips, and Audrey Beagle. As well as three brothers; Arthur Phillips Jr., Donald Phillips, and James Phillips.
A memorial service for Fred will be held at the Mahar Funeral Home in Bennington at 12pm on Wednesday September 28, 2022. Burial will follow at the families lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. Father Jeremy Means-Koss of Saint Peter's Episcopal Church in Bennington will offer the services.
