Francis J. Latif
Bennington - Francis J. Latif, 92, of Caroline Drive passed away peacefully March 23, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Springfield, MA on January 14, 1926 to Nassif and Frieda Latif, he later moved to Bennington and graduated from Bennington High School in 1944. After graduation he served in the Army-Air Force during World War II.
He was a dedicated father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He especially enjoyed family gatherings and visiting with friends. He co-owned the former Williams & Bugbee dealership with his late brother Joe and spent many working hours there.
Francis was an integral member of The American Legion Post 13 and served as Treasurer for many years. He was recently recognized for 70 years of continuous membership in both The American Legion and The Elks Club. In his earlier years he enjoyed woodworking in his shop, and working in his yard. He also enjoyed painting and rooting for his favorite teams - the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
He leaves his loving wife, Lucy, of nearly 70 years, five children: Christine Reighley and husband John of Sheldon,VT; CynthiaAllen and husband Gary of Mocksville, NC; David Latif and fiancee Suzanne Wargo of Port St. Lucie, FL; Donald Latif and wife Sandy of Shaftsbury, and Laura Cryan and husband John of Millbury, MA. He also leaves nine grandchildren; Michael & Nicholas Allen, Miles and Darrel Hickok, Bradley and Todd Latif, Ryan Latif, Caitlin and Courtney Cryan, as well as eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers Joseph Latif and Michael Williams, sisters Genevieve Woodard and Rose Williams, and daughter-in-law Donna Latif.
The family wishes to extend their special thanks to Dr. Salazar and the VNA Hospice nursing staff for their wonderful care during the last weeks of his life. A memorial service to celebrate his life and legacy will be announced at a later date at the convenience of the family.
