Frances Zubryd, 85, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016 in Bennington, VT with her united family by her side. She is survived by her beloved Daughter, Laura Zubryd of Norwich, VT, She spoke of Laura as her favorite way to learn to grow and "Understand herself through Laura's unique gifts - to see herself in new ways." She is also survived by her grandson, Christopher Zubryd who chose to serve and honor Fran's loving decision to raise him over the final few years of an extra-ordinary life by being his grandmother's full time caretaker. She is survived by Michelle Zubryd, her granddaughter for whom she fought ceaselessly and prayerfully to raise as own and will "Forever remain proud of as the most courageous, strongest, and limitless girl she's ever known." Fran always felt blessed to have grandchildren. She was survived by another granddaughter, Sascha Zubryd Humphrey, and any news about Sascha was met with the large smiles of a proud grandmother eager to hear of all Sascha's scholastic achievements and news but none more than learning of her great-grandson; John Logan Humphrey. Fran's 2 sons, David and Douglas Zubryd passed in 2010 and 2013, respectively. Her husband Anthony Zubryd passed in 1970.
Frances Zubryd was born the Daughter of James Nunzio Lodato, and Elvera Alessi Lodato October 2, 1930 in Astoria, Queens, NY. Frances worked for New York University Law School as a secretary right out of High School. While employed there she passed the NY State Bar exam having never attended law school.
She met Anthony Zubryd in Flushing, Queens, NY and they were married December, 27, 1949. They lived together in Flushing, NY, with their 2 sons David and Douglas. Later they moved to their first home in Ridge, LI, NY where they were blessed with Laura Zubryd, their daughter.
Frances founded "Zubryd Associates Inc." for the purpose of Management/Business Consulting. She also started Project Together, in Happague, LI, NY. She was a pioneer in the field of management consulting and informational system network flow for many years, until her Husband Anthony became ill and passed away, she supported and raised their 3 children as well as caring for both of her elderly parents. She also earned her bachelor's degree in Sociology from Empire State College, all while running her management consulting practice full time with clients like the Roosevelt Raceway, LI and She designed a informational systems model for a child healthcare system at for the Little Flower catholic school system in NYC.
She spoke as an invited guest speaker at numerous schools and organizations making a positive difference for so many in the business world, while blazing the trail for women entering this relatively new style of business system and designed and created numerous types informational systems and algorithms still in use to this day.
Frances belonged to Mensa, The LI Chapter of Management and the America. Management society where for a time she served on the board as well as President. She won many awards and earned the respect of all her colleagues and friends in a male dominated world and set of fields throughout the 60's and 70's. She later earned her Masters in Education from Boston College.
In 1970 she lost her husband, mother and father all within the same 6 month period. After this devastating tragedy, Frances responded as she always had (taking action immediately and almost always with the intention of making the lives of others better) with one major shift in focus this time: "The Hounds of Heaven found me and chased me down," she'd say while describing an entirely new chapter of her life.
She sold her houses and assets on Long Island and moved to Unity, NH to a 12 room farm house on 133 acres to open her doors to those most in need running a "House of Mercy" where business and information systems once framed her life - she had discovered with the help of friends both near and those she made at Little Flower began a life of Christian Duty and service helping countless visitors and guests find their way to the Lord. She joined the Catholic Parish in Claremont, NH and was hired as Director of Religious Education.
In 1989 She moved to Bennington, VT and became an active member of her church community ultimately being hired as Director of Religious Education, while serving on various Church Boards and started the first Catholic Preschool in Bennington, VT in the Parish Hall of what today is known as Sacred Heart Saint Francis De Sales. She was also later hired directly by the Burlington Diocesan office as a consultant for religious education models used through the entire State of Vermont.
During her spare time, she enjoyed educational seminars, reading, writing, traveling, painting, drawing, photography, knitting and her pets. She embraced challenges with perseverance and passion and had a great sense of humor and inquisitiveness about the world. She nurtured and shaped the lives of many in her professional and personal life. Her unconditional love and dedication as a wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, will forever be honored, respected and remembered by her family and friends.
The funeral will be held from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 1:00 PM.
The burial will take place in the family lot at St. John's Cemetery in North Bennington.
