SHAFTSBURY
Esther B. Murphy, 94, widow of John J. "Joe" Murphy, a resident of Cleveland Avenue, Shaftsbury, died peacefully on Monday, May 11, 2020 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness.
Born in Pittstown, NY on February 17, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Jay and Helen (Smith) Brock. She received her education in New York state.
Joe and Esther were married in Pittstown, NY on December 12, 1942. Joe died May 3, 1996.
In earlier years Esther was employed at EZ Mill in Bennington and later at Stanley Tool in Shaftsbury for twenty years until the time of her retirement.
During her free time Esther especially enjoyed watching cooking shows on television.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Garry J. and Juanita Murphy of Bennington and David J. and Tina Murphy of Arlington; four grandchildren, Sheena Murphy and her significant other, Donald Amoroso Sr, Colton Murphy, Shawn and Jennifer Murphy and Michelle Murphy and her significant other, Jeff Metcalfe; three great-grandchildren, Donald Jr., Zoey and Caz Amoroso. Esther was predeceased by two brothers, Clifford and Leonard Brock.
Due to the issues with the COVAD-19 virus private services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial to take place in the family lot in St. Johns Cemetery in North Bennington.
