Ernest Phillip Leonard Jr.

November 20, 1936 — February 12, 2022

Ernest Phillip Leonard, Jr., 85, a former resident of Bennington and E. Hardwick, VT and more recently of Great Barrington, MA died Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the Timberlyn Heights Rehabilitation Center in Great Barrington following a long illness.

He was born in Bennington, VT, on November 20, 1936. He was the son of the late Ernest P. Leonard Sr. and Anna (McGuire) Leonard. Ernest received his education in Bennington and was a graduate of Bennington High School.

He served in the United States Army.

He married the former Sandra J. Holland on July 10, 1989.

For 32 years Ernest worked at Stanley Tools in Shaftsbury, VT. He enjoyed woodworking, reading and spending time in the great outdoors of Vermont.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Leonard; his children, Michael Leonard (Janice) of East Hardwick, VT, Lisa (Jacobs) Ottaviano (John) of Bennington, Julie Sweet (Walt) of Bennington and Ernest Leonard III (Katrina) of Nevada, and a sister Patricia Perrotta. His six grandchildren; Paul Leonard, Michael Leonard, Sarah Jacobs, Nicole Leonard, Molly Sweet, and Anna Jacobs and seven great grandchildren. He is predeceased by a son; Joseph Paul Leonard, a sister; Marie Leonard, and a brother; James Leonard.

At Ernest's request, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
