Ellen M. Tornabene (Rice)

September 14, 1931 — March 13, 2016

Ellen M. Tornabene, 84, a resident of Niles School Road in Pownal, VT died Sunday March 13, 2016 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.

She was born in North Adams, MA September 14, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Myles and Catherine (Cooney) Rice. Ellen received her education in North Adams and was a 1949 graduate of Drury High School.

She married Charles W. Tornabene Jr. September 24, 1949 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in North Adams. Mr. Tornabene died October 13, 2006

Ellen was very involved in Church matters. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at the former Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pownal, VT. She also enjoyed working in her gardens but her greatest joy was with her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Charleene Tornabene of Pownal and Catherine Skorupski of Stamford, VT. Nine grandchildren, Joel Howard, , Brooke Columbie, Lee Howard, Trever Howard, Kelley Kearns, John Kearns, Myles Campbell, Ericca Burdick and Janet Skorupski along with eleven great grandchildren. A nephew, John Michael Shields and his wife Linda, two nieces, Mary Lou Selsby and her husband Harvey and Sandy Horan and her husband David. She was pre-deceased by a sister Mary Shields

The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday March 18, at 12:30 p.m. with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 1:00 p.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal, VT
