Elizabeth B. "Libby" Tinney, 88, a resident of Bank Street, North Bennington died peacefully on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at her home.
Born in Bennington on December 22, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Harley and Belle (Rowe) Bowles. Libby received her education in the Bennington schools and was a 1947 graduate of Bennington High School.
She married Francis "Bud" Tinney in Bennington on April 24, 1948. Mr. Tinney died in 1973.
For many years Libby was employed as a waitress in several local restaurants including the Paradise, the Four Chimineys, the Four Squires, Elizabeth's Garden and Bennington Station where she retired at the age of 81. Libby was also a licensed real estate agent in Vermont for many years.
She enjoyed hosting and attending tag sales on her "tag sale circuit". She also enjoyed knitting and gardening. Libby was a member of the Shaftsbury Methodist Church and American Legion Post 13.
Survivors include a son, Scott Tinney of Austin, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Rod Cameron of North Bennington and Lisa and Steve Woodcock Chesapeake, VA; seven grandchildren, Morgan Freebody, Christopher Tinney, Tyler, Justus (Kristen), and Carson Cameron and Ryan and Logan Woodcock; a great-grandson, Jaxon Cameron; a sister in-law, Jean (Ed) Woodard of Shaftsbury and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Libby was predeceased by a sister, Marion Stratton.
Memorial services celebrating the life of Libby Tinney will be held from American Legion Post 13, 225 Northside Drive, Bennington, VT on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 12:00 noon with Rev. Deborah Estey officiating.
There will be no visitation hours.
