Eleanor A. Baldwin (Griswold)

Eleanor "Ellie" Ann Griswold Baldwin passed away on June 13, 2017 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon NH. Eleanor was born on February 21, 1930 at Mercy Hospital in Pittsfield, MA.
She was the daughter of Harry L. Griswold, Sr. and Anne Mikla Griswold. Eleanor attended elementary school in Stephentown, NY and then went on to Berlin Central School where she graduated in 1948 with honors in business throughout all four years of high school as well as Editor in Chief of her senior year book.

Eleanor began her career right away after graduating by accepting a position with the US Federal Government Civil Service Division in Watervliet, NY as secretary to the Chief Loan Guaranty Officer. A few months later she transferred over to the US Army/US Air Force recruiting station in Albany, NY.
Eleanor married Robert Frederick Baldwin on November 23, 1952.

Once Eleanor started having her family, she devoted her life to raising her five children all who survive. They are William A. Baldwin, Sr and partner, Marie Hawley of North Bennington, Elizabeth Baldwin Swartz of Shaftsbury, Robin L. Baldwin Hills and son in law, Ivan Hills of Mission Viejo, CA, Ronald L. Baldwin and daughter in law, Jessica Baldwin of Naples Florida and Julie Marie Baldwin of Walloomsac, NY. Her husband passed away in December of 1986 at the age of 55. She is survived by her siblings, Rose Marie Zukas of Port Orange, Florida and two brothers, Harry Griswold, Jr. and wife, Marion Griswold of New Smyrna Beach Florida and E. Carter Griswold and wife, Barbara of Stephentown, NY. She also is survived by eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In 1971 Eleanor returned from her employment with the Federal Government as the Postmaster Assistant in North Hoosick, NY and also a window clerk and postmaster replacement in Hoosick Falls, NY and a substitute Postmaster for Eagle Bridge and Schaghticoke, NY locations. She was then appointed as Officer in charge of the Lebanon, Springs NY Post Office.

In 1984 Eleanor transferred to the Daytona Beach Postal Service after moving south with her husband. After his passing she accepted a new position with the Veteran's Administration William Chapel Outpatient Clinic as a receptionist, medical clerk, telephone and computer operator for a total of eight years before her retirement after 22.5 years of service and many awards for her accomplishments. She then moved back to Walloomsac, NY where she spent the rest of her life living close to her children. Her main interests were gardening and she loved photography, always having a camera in her hand.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at St. John the Baptist Parish in North Bennington on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.

Contributions in Eleanor's memory may be made through the EP Mahar & Son Funeral Home to either the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad or the North Hoosick Fire Department.
