Elaine E. Allen (Savage)

December 23, 1927 — September 5, 2017

Elaine E. Savage Allen, 89, a resident of Westview Place in Shaftsbury died Tuesday September 5, 2017 at the Albany Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born in Rutland, VT on December 23, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Elizabeth (McNaughton) Savage. She received her education in Rutland.

She married Searle Allen on August 26, 1951 in Rutland.

In earlier years Elaine was employed at Eagle Square, The Killington Glove Factory and the Bennington Banner. She most recently was employed as a teacher's aide at the Catamount Elementary School and Molly Stark School.

Elaine enjoyed knitting, crocheting, traveling and camping. Elaine and her husband Searle were Foster Grandparents and were recognized in 2007 with the governor's award for outstanding community service.

Survivors include her husband Searle E. Allen of Shaftsbury, a son, Searle E. Allen Jr of Shaftsbury. A niece Cathy Ayou of Windsor Locks, CT and a nephew Wayne Allen of Somers, CT. She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Howard Savage Jr. and Richard Savage.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday September 8, 2017 from 11:00 a.m until noon.

The burial will follow at the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery in Rutland, VT where the committal prayers will be offered at 2:00 p.m.
