Edwin D. "Bud" Dickie, 79, a resident of Reservoir Road in Shaftsbury, VT died Tuesday July 5, 2016 in Bennington.
He was born in Bennington, Vermont September 23, 1936. He was the son of the late Harry and Dorothy (Sweet) Dickie. Bud received his education in Bennington and was a 1954 graduate of Bennington High School where he was a member of the football team. Mr. Dickie represented Bennington in the first Shrine Football game between Vermont and New Hampshire.
He married the former Ellen Cross on June 29, 1957 in Bennington. Mrs. Dickie died October 29, 2007.
In earlier years Mr. Dickie was employed by the State of Vermont and for over 50 years he had been employed at Burgess Brothers in Bennington as a heavy equipment operator.
He enjoyed horse racing and NASCAR. His family was his main interest along with his dog "Harvey"
Survivors include a daughter Wendy Dickie and her husband Henry Sausville of Shaftsbury; three sons and daughter in laws, Daniel and Catherine Dickie of Shaftsbury, Terry "T.J." and Rebecca Dickie of Shaftsbury and Timothy and Kellie Dickie of Schuylerville, N.Y.; six grandchildren Ben Dickie and his wife Aaron, Aaron Dickie and his wife Alicia, Abby Dickie, Darrick Dickie, Sarah Dickie and Carson Morgan; three great grandchildren, Wyatt, Jackson and Brycen Dickie; three sisters, Shirley Kipp and her husband Earl of Bennington, VT, DeeAnn Gauthier and her husband Wayne of Utica, NY and Catherine McHugh and her husband Robert of Newtonville, N.Y. Along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a brother George Dickie and two sisters, Margaret and Edna Mae Dickie.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday July 8, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday July 8, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.
The burial will take place in the family lot at White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington.
