Edward G. Woodard

Edward G. Woodard, age 94 a resident of Shaftsbury died on Sunday morning, December 1, 2019 following a long illness.

He was born in Bennington on October 29, 1925, and was the son of the late Jess and Mary (Cornell) Woodard. He received his education in local schools. He served in the Navy during World War II. Following his military service, he returned to Bennington and went to work at the Vermont Tissue Mill, where he worked his entire career, which included owning the mill at one time. At the time of his retirement, when the company closed down, Edward was the General Manager. He married the former Jean Tinney in North Bennington in 1954. They have been married for sixty-four years. Mrs. Woodard survives. Edward was a life member of the Bennington Elks Lodge and the American Legion Post #13 of Bennington.

He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. He also had a passion for horse racing and spending time at the Saratoga Race Track. Ed loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed traveling.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his nephew Scott Tinney of Austin ,TX, niece Valerie (Rod) Cameron of North Bennington, niece Lisa (Steve) Woodcock of Chesapeake, VA, niece Patty Joly (Ray) of Woodford, and niece Sandy (Bernie) Loomis of North Bennington. Ed also leaves his great nieces and nephews: Tyler Cameron, Justus (Kristen) Cameron, Christopher Tinney, Morgan (Willy) Freebody, Ryan and Logan Woodcock, as well as one great-great nephew Jaxon Cameron, and two great-great twin nieces, Mattison and Kasey Cameron.

Edward is predeceased by one sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Roy Collier, a sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Libby) Tinney, and one great-great nephew, Carson Cameron.

There are no services or calling hours scheduled. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Vermont Veterans Home Residents' Activities Fund through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers at the Vermont Veterans Home who provided excellent care, support, and understanding while Edward was a patient in their care.
