SHAFTSBURY- Edward William Myers, 79, a resident of Shaftsbury, Vermont passed away on January 31st, 2023 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, New York, surrounded by his family. Edward was born in Bennington, VT on April 13th, 1943 to the late Ruth (Elwell) and Edward J. Myers. He graduated from North Bennington High School and went on to join the United States Navy, where he received an honorable discharge. After he left the service, he married the former Gloria Tobin, and together they had three sons, William, Edward W. Jr., and Andrew, and a daughter Tammy, who passed away at the age of 50 in 2017. Edward worked for the Town of Shaftsbury before going to work for the State Highway Department. He later worked for Bob + Zane’s Mobil in Bennington, until they retired and sold the business. Ed then went to work for Allied Auto (NAPA), in Manchester, VT until he retired. In retirement, he enjoyed camping, fishing, kayaking with his wife and hunting with his sons. Ed joined the North Bennington Fire Department in 2000 and has been a member ever since. Edward is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria Myers, of Shaftsbury, VT and his three sons: William Myers (Bonnie), of Bennington, VT, Edward W. Myers Jr.(Cindi), of North Bennington, VT, and Andrew Myers (Melissa Smith), of Pownal, VT. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ed has three sisters that survive, Nancy Sausville, of Ballston Spa, NY, Kimberly Mayer, of Shaftsbury, VT, and Betty Ware, of Shaftsbury, VT, as well as a brother, John Myers, of Shaftsbury, VT. Along with his parents and daughter, Tammy, Ed was predeceased by a sister, Faye Baker. Friends are invited to call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home from 10am-12pm on February 11th, 2023. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 12:00pm. Immediately following the service, the burial will take place in the family lot at Grandview Cemetery. There will be a gathering at the Shaftsbury Firehouse following the burial.
