Edmund "Peanut" Pierce

October 13, 1946 — June 11, 2020

POWNAL

Edmund H. "Peanut" Pierce, 73, a resident of Puddingstone Road, Pownal, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a hard fought battle with cancer.

Born in Bennington on October 13, 1946, he was the son of the late Harold and Frances (Surdam) Pierce. He received his education in the Bennington schools and went on to receive his Masters Electrician license. Known by many to have been one of the best electricians around, there wasn't ever a problem that he couldn't solve. Peanut retired from Monument Electric in 2010 and spent the last several years working with his son-in-law, Josh Niles.

Peanut married the former June Stratton in Bennington on June 7, 1969.

Besides his family and grandchildren one of Peanut's greatest passions in life was stock car racing. He was very well known throughout the racing community and one of his greatest success stories was winning the 2012 Sportsman Track Championship with his son Chad driving his car. No one deserved the checkered flag more than him; he always ran one hell of a race. In 2012 Peanut was inducted into the New York State Stock Car Association Hall of Fame and in 2017 into the Lebanon Valley Hall of Fame.

His kids and grandchildren could give him a project to build and he would go home, think about it, and within a couple of days would have it completed.

Survivors include his wife, June Pierce of Pownal; a son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Sandra Pierce and their children Jaden and Carter and a daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Josh Niles and their children, Rylie and Sydne, all of Eagle Bridge, NY; a sister-in-law, Jan (Steve) Goodrich of North Bennington and two brothers-in-law, Hector (Julie) Stratton of Bennington and Jay Stratton of Shaftsbury and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Peanut was predeceased by a brother, Gerry Pierce.
